  • The Helena, a thirty-eight story, 550,000 square foot apartment building, is located on the northwest corner of West 57th Street and 11th Avenue on Manhattan's West Side. The building, with views of the Hudson River, is 405 feet tall at the top of the mechanical screenwall and has two underground cellar levels. Conceptually, the apartment tower is composed of two interlocking volumes. The resulting tower massing creates seven corner windows. The typical apartments floor-to-floor height is 9 feet. The building is enclosed by a panelized, metal and glass, window wall system. The design of the facade envisions a series of alternating glass and metal horizontal bands. The area for glazing typically extends from the ceiling to approximately 30" from the floor. The bottom of the glazing at the corners of the building is lowered to approximately 12" from the floor to create floor to ceiling windows.
