Brooklyn Brownstone

A Green Residential Building in Brooklyn, NY.

  • The house was structurally enforced and insulated with a high R value blown in cellulose insulation to reduce moisture and eliminate the growth of mold. Non-toxic bio-degradable paint strippers were used throughout the house on the woodwork as well as the marble fireplaces with no off gassing during renovation. All glues and adhesives used were non toxic in addition to the use of non toxic, low odor wall paints, like Benjamin Moore/BioShield low odor and lime casein paint. Water based stains and paints were used on the wood banister and window frames throughout the house. Several of the existing floors were replaced with bamboo and linseed linoleum. Water based and oil finishes were used on the original and new natural wood floors. Recycled doors, carpet, and selected recycled fixtures were used throughout the house. The house is scheduled for the installation of solar PV and solar thermal panels in November.
  • Outdoor footwear is not permitted indoors. Please bring house slippers or stocking feet.
  • Take the A train downtown to Brooklyn and get off at Nostrand Ave. Walk against the traffic on Nostrand for 6 blocks, to the corner of Madison St. Turn left onto Madison St. 234 is the 7th house on the right handside of the street.
