Celebrate NYC: EnerPHit Showcase

September 12, 2018 9:00am Join Building Energy Exchange for Celebrate NYC: EnerPHit Showcase. This panel event will feature presentations from three architecture firms that have completed Passive House retrofits that meet EnerPHit, the rigorous Passive House standard for retrofits. Panelists will include Julie Torres Moskovitz of Fete Nature Architecture, Paul Castrucci of Paul Castrucci Architects, and In Cho of ChoShields Studio.   Julie Torres Moskovitz will present on Tighthouse, the first certified Passive House project in NYC. The pre-war brownstone underwent a gut renovation in 2011, adding a third story, new rear facade, and roof terrace. The project went on to win a 2014 International Passive House Design Award and a 2016 AIA COTE honorable mention.   Paul Castrucci will speak to the gut renovation of a two-family home in Brooklyn at 158 Clifton Place, completed in 2017. The Passive House renovation features extensive use of reclaimed wood and other recycled materials throughout, high efficiency mini-split units that heat and cool the apartments, and the installation of energy efficient appliances, LED lighting, and a rooftop photovoltaic array.   In Cho will present on the gut renovation of Gramercy Townhouse, a now 4,500 square foot multi-unit building that includes a luxury vacation rental home and Manhattan’s first Passive House apartments. The preexisting four story, two family townhouse with a brick shell and and wood joists was renovated to provide increased floor to floor heights and become a five story, multi-apartment vacation residence, including a garden-level apartment along with a second and third floor duplex.   Following presentations, Ken Levenson, of 475 High Performance Building Supply will lead a moderated discussion. This program will be offered in conjunction with Celebrate NYC: Tour of Gramercy Townhouse on September 18th, featuring the luxury vacation home retrofitted to the EnerPHit standard by ChoShields Studio.   MODERATOR Ken Levenson, 475 High Performance Building Supply   SPEAKERS Paul Castrucci, Paul Castrucci Architects In Cho, ChoShields Studio Julie Torres Moskovitz, Fete Nature Architecture   This program is a part of Celebrate NYC, an exhibit showcasing energy efficient building renovations and retrofits across NYC, now on display at the Building Energy Exchange.
