August’s forum will discuss working with contractors in both residential and commercial projects. Along with teams of architects, designers, and specifiers, the future of green construction is in the contractors’ hands. Our speakers will explore all aspects on green contracting. The contractor plays an important role in the development of a green building. Green construction projects are similar to traditional construction projects, but may take into consideration certification requirements such as LEED or EnergyStar, and have a focus on aspects such as energy efficiency, capturing maximum daylight, proper insulation, amongst other green building characteristics.
Our speakers:
Gennaro Brooks-Church, NY Licensed Real Estate Broker, Certified EcoBroker®, National Sustainable Advisor Program, LEED AP and Passive House Consultant Trainee, directs Eco Brooklyn. He coined two important building concepts: Build It Forward and the Zero Brownstone. Build It Forward is where all building must be made to last at least one hundred years, be a desirable gift to future generations and not drain existing resources. The Zero Brownstone is when a brownstone is renovated using no new materials, creating no waste and the end result is a home that uses no energy.
John Messerschmidt of Four Points Consulting Group serves as an owner’s representative and consultant for people building or renovating townhouses, brownstones and apartments. He has over ten years experience in green building for high end residences. He is certified by NAHB, NARI and BPI as a Green Building Professional. John is on the planning committee for the Building Envelope Council of NY, and is very active in local non profit environmental organizations.
Robert Politzer is the President and founder of GreenStreet Inc. Robert is a LEED accredited professional and was the Chair of the Sustainable Business Task Force of the New York State Environmental Business Association. He is a former New York City public high school teacher and Adjunct Professor at New York University and the New York City Technical College. Robert holds a B.S. in Biology from Indiana University, a M.A. in Environmental Policy from the University of Michigan, and a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Manhattan College. He is a Tai Chi teacher at the West Side YMCA, father of Rebecca and Benjamin and husband of Barbara Reef.
