Architect Jorge Lopez de Obeso talked about advances in sustainable design and construction in Mexico, and Al Wei of ARUP introduced ARUP’s approach to international sustainability projects. Architect Jorge López de Obeso holds the distinction of being the fourth LEED-accredited professional practicing in Mexico. As principal of Ea Energía y Arquitectura and head of the Department of Environmental Responsibility and Integrated Design of JSa (formerly Higuera Sanchez), Jorge is currently overseeing the design and LEED certification for 7 new-construction and renovation projects in Mexico. In addition, he teaches the sustainable architecture studio at the Guadalajara campus of the Instituto de Techologia y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Mexico’s premier technical institute. Jorge earned his formative professional experience at TEN Arquitectos; received his degree in Architecture from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente in Guadalajara, Mexico; and a MA in Housing and Urbanism from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. Albert S. Wei, Senior Urban Planner in the Integrated Urbanism Practice of ARUP, has 14 years of experience designing and managing the development of urban and infrastructure projects globally. At Arup, he focuses on design of environmentally and socially sustainable urban places.Al’s international project and program management experience gives him thorough knowledge of the commercial, construction, financial and regulatory considerations underlying any project. He holds a B.A. in Urban Studies from Columbia University and dual masters degrees from MIT in Architecture Studies and City Planning. The Green Building Forum is held on the third Wednesday of each month (except December) @6:30 PM and features presentations by green building practitioners followed by discussion.
