ASHRAE  May Chapter Meeting featuring a presentation on 90 by 50: A Path to Deep CO2 Reductions in NYC.   Climate science tells us we must reduce carbon pollution to ensure a stable and livable environment. While the goal is clear, the path forward is incredibly murky. In “90 by 50: NYC Can Reduce Its Carbon Footprint 90% By 2050”, Urban Green Council lays out a possible path to a future in which New York City’s greenhouse gas emissions grow smaller at a rate consistent with long-term climate stability. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from the lead researcher behind the report, Richard Leigh, Urban Green Council’s Director of Research, on the means and methods necessary to reach a dramatic 90 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2050.   Speakers:   Richard Leigh, PhD, PE, LEED AP | Director of Research, Urban Green Council With over 30 years of experience in energy efficiency and sustainability, Dick has been leading Urban Green Council’s research efforts for the past five. He played a central role in the Green Codes Task Force, contributed to New York City’s ban on #6 heating oil, oversaw There are Holes in Our Walls, led 90 by 50, and provides ongoing guidance on course content for GPRO. Prior to joining UGC, Dick was Senior Engineer at the Community Environmental Center, where he provided technical leadership for NYSERDA’s Assisted Multifamily Program and other projects in existing and new buildings. Earlier, he worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory on energy and solar technologies and national energy planning. He is also Visiting Associate Professor of Physics at Pratt Institute.   Daniel Wright, PhD | Assistant Professor of Physics, Pratt Institute Professor Wright teaches and develops courses in chemistry and physics at Pratt Institute. His current research interests include topics relating to the science of sustainability including life cycle analysis, building modeling/simulation, and sustainability metrics. His past academic research activities were focused on the study of organic materials for applications in optics.
