Sustainable Architecture & Industry Bus Tour at the Brooklyn Navy Yard
March 29, 2014 2:00pm-4:00pm
Tour Description: Explore the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s transition from one of the nation’s foremost naval shipbuilding facilities to a national leader for sustainable urban industrial parks. On this Sustainable Architecture & Industry Bus Tour, you’ll learn about many of the yard’s green initiatives, including adaptive reuse of historic structures and materials, alternative energy projects, and sustainable practices in manufacturing employed by some of the yard’s 300 tenants. The tour will include visits to such sites as the yard’s historic 1851 dry dock (which is still in use for ship repair), the nation’s first green multi-story industrial building, and the LEED Platinum-certified Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92. While we’ll use a bus to get you from place to place, we will be getting off the bus for a closer look at most of the stops.
Turnstile Tours, a New York State-registered benefit corporation with a social mission, hosts this tour in partnership with the
Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92 and the
Brooklyn Greenway Initiative.
Directions for reserving tickets: Advance ticket reservations strongly recommended as space is limited. Please reserve your
tickets online or in-person at the Visitor Services Desk at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92 at the intersection of Flushing and Carlton Avenues.
