We know that buildings with clean and healthy air, abundant natural light, great thermal comfort and moisture control have positive effects on occupants. Fewer sick days are needed, staff are more productive, students are more engaged in the classroom (and achieve higher test scores.) These are great goals for any community. The Town of Lexington is embarking on the biggest building campaign we’ve seen in a generation, and this is the perfect opportunity to start a community conversation about how our buildings can help us achieve our goals for our students, teachers, and Town employees. We’re pleased to be partnering with great local Lexington groups to bring you “Building a Healthy Future: Setting Our Goals for the Next Generation”, which will feature a panel of familiar NESEA members and BuildingEnergy speakers. While this workshop is focused on Lexington, all citizens who feel they have a stake in the quality of public buildings in the state are welcome. We hope you’ll be able to attend! TOPICS OF DISCUSSION – What goals should we be considering for the next generation of our buildings? – How can high performance buildings benefit our health, productivity, and resilience? – Are zero-net energy and zero-emission buildings possible and affordable in Massachusetts? – Should we embrace sustainable building standards like LEED or Green Globes? – What support is available to help our community get started building a healthy future?
