Last year, the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) revealed their $30 million Buildings of Excellence competition, recognizing low- and zero-carbon emitting buildings. NYSERDA President and CEO, Alicia Barton, announced the competition during the Buildings of Excellence Launch here at BE-Ex.   The Buildings of Excellence competition is an innovative effort to advance climate action goals across New York State by incentivizing the design, construction, and operation of buildings that improve quality of life with little or no carbon impact. In partnership with NYSERDA, the Building Energy Exchange is hosting a series of gallery talks dedicated to a range of design strategies, building systems, and case studies that provide potential pathways to net-zero building performance.   This past October, NYSERDA announced round one award winners for 26 projects in the categories of Early Design, Late Design, Under Construction and Post-Completion Performance Optimization. For our second gallery talk, join NYSERDA and BE-Ex for a presentation from two award-winning Passive House projects, North Miller Passive Multifamily and Engine 16. North Miller Passive Multifamily honors Newburgh, New York’s existing historic townhouses while delivering high-performance benefits of comfort, indoor air quality, and durability. Designed by Northeast Projects and currently under construction, the retrofit will upgrade the building to Net Zero designation.   Engine 16 is an adaptive reuse and gut rehabilitation designed by Baxt Ingui Architects. The design celebrates and extends the architectural features while adapting a new use as a multifamily residential building with a community facility.
