Cold Frame Planters for Urban Spaces

October 5, 2013 11:30am-3pm Come get your herbs and other small urban plants ready for winter with Joe Chavez from Solar One! Bring your working hands and your building minds, we will have all the materials you need to create these great new additions to your urban gardens.   Joe began working with Solar One’s Education team in 2010 as an educator for enrichment classes and the Green Design Lab program. As a recent graduate from the Center for AgroEcology and Sustainable Food Systems at University of California Santa Cruz and a history of working with community gardens in NYC, Joe brings expertise and experience to the Green Design Lab program’s curriculum, which introduces sustainable agriculture and the food system to New York City students.   For a 2011 sustainability project at the Academy of Urban Planning, a Green Design Lab school, Joe led students and staff in the planning and construction of a 3,000 square foot urban farm on the school campus. The farm provides organic produce for the students, the community, and local restaurants. He is currently focused on expanding sustainability projects for participating Green Design Lab schools with projects ranging from installing solar panels and rainwater collection systems to greenhouses and hydroponic gardens. $70 materials included. Adults only.
