It’s a time for renewal and what better way than to take a look at renewables and energy efficiency! For the month of February we will be talking about both and their growing importance in the industry as more traditional sources of energy, like Nuclear power, are being called into question.   Govoner Cuomo has put Indian Point Nuclear Plant under more scrutiny recently and has began considering other alternatives to meet the large energy needs of consumers. Indian Point currently provides 23% of New York City’s electricity, but events like Fukushima have led people to question whether nuclear power is a safe and reliable source of power.   In 2012, the New York Public Service Comission, who regulates New York utilities, directed Con Edison and the New York Power Authority to develop a contingency plan in case Indian Point is decommissioned. This plan addressed how reliability concerns will be handled as well as facilitated the creation of new energy efficiency and demand response programs to reduce downstate electricity consumption.   Renewables and energy efficiency are posed to take center stage in New York City this year so we want to kick this year off with a event devoted to both. Join us Tuesday, February 11th for a night of networking with energy efficiency and renewable professionals.   We are very excited to announce that one of the core team members of the Indian Point Contingency Program, Jin Jin Huang from Con Edison, will give an update on Indian Point and Con Edison’s developments to meet the growing needs of consumers. It’s going to be a great night, you won’t want to miss this!   Biography for Jin Jin Huang   Jin Jin Huang graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2002 and from Columbia University with a MPA in Environmental Science and Policy in 2011. Prior to joining the Con Edison Green team, Jin Jin worked 10 years in HVAC consulting at various engineering firms in New York City. At Con Edison, Jin Jin provides technical support for the implementation of all of the energy efficiency programs. She is part of the core team for implementing the Indian Point Contingency program with NYSERDA. Jin Jin has over 20 years of experience in martial arts and is a karate instructor. She also enjoys hiking, snowboarding, surfing and golfing.
