NYU’S Cogeneration Plant Tour

Join Urban Green Council for an exclusive tour of the New York University Washington Square Co-Generation (“CoGen”) Plant. Operational since 2011, the new CoGen plant approaches 90% energy efficiency while producing 13.4 megawatts of electricity. The CoGen plant decreases greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 23%, while reducing air pollutants by 68%, compared to its 30-year-old predecessor. It is one of the largest private CoGen plants in New York City, and provides electricity to 22 NYU buildings, as well as heat and hot/chilled water to 37 buildings.   The tour, led by John Bradley, will focus on the design, construction, and operations of the CoGen facility.   SPEAKERS   John Bradley | Associate Vice President for Sustainability Services, NYU   John is the Associate Vice President for Sustainability, Energy and Technical Services at New York University. His responsibilities include demand side management, energy procurement and the operation of the campus cogeneration facility. Prior to joining NYU, John held various leadership positions with the U.S. Navy, Union Carbide, PSEG Nuclear and PSEG Energy Technologies. John holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Nuclear Engineering from Maritime College, an MBA from University of Delaware and a Master of Science in Global Affairs/Energy Policy from NYU. John is a Certified Energy Manager, Certified Building Commissioning Professional and a Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional.
