Recent Local Laws: Post Hurricane Sandy Legislation

This presentation will inform the professional community of nine recently enacted resiliency-related local laws passed by City Council in the wake of Hurricane Sandy that amend the 2008 New York City construction codes. Attendees will be made aware of construction code changes that impact building design such as: – Local law amendments to the 2008 NYC Building Code and Department of Buildings application and filing requirements for raising and moving of buildings   – Local law amendments to the 2008 NYC Building Code’s Appendix G, Flood Resistant Construction – Local law amendment to the 2008 NYC Building Code, Mechanical Code and Electric Code as it pertains to emergency and standby power systems   – The effect of legislative impacts on the Department of Building’s application and filing process. These local laws are based primarily on the recommendations of the Buildings Resiliency Task Force (BRTF) and the Special Initiative for Rebuilding and Resiliency (SIRR).   The local laws to be covered are: – Local Law 29/13 – Raising and Moving of Buildings – Local Law 51/13 – Permit Fee Waivers – Local Law 82/13 – Flood Manual – Local Law 83/13 – Backflow Prevention – Local Law 95/13 – Healthcare Facilities – Local Law 96/13 – Flood Maps – Local Law 99/13 – Raising Building Systems – Local Law 109/13 – Flood Barriers – Local Law 111/13 – Emergency & Standby Power Systems   Speakers: Joseph Ackroyd, PE, Director of Engineering of Technical Affairs Dan Eschenasy, PE, Chief Structural Engineer Constadino (Gus) Sirakis, PE, Executive Director of Technical Affairs   Organized by: NYC Department of Buildings and co-hosted by AIANY Committee on the Environment, Design for Risk and Reconstruction, and Building Codes
