Earlier this year, New York City Council passed the Climate Mobilization Act (CMA), an aggressive climate action plan which, among other initiatives, places firm limits on building carbon emissions. Starting in 2024, nearly a quarter of our largest buildings may face fines for emitting greenhouses gases in excess of CMA limits, given business-as-usual operations.   Accordingly, a great opportunity exists for deep retrofits, holistic building renovations that reduce operating costs, improve resident comfort, and provide a pathway to compliance with the City’s new building emissions laws. With architectural pre-cast buildings and massive glass curtainwall structures dominating our skyline, what steps can the design and construction industry take to perform retrofits that improve building performance and ensure compliance?   Building Energy Exchange welcomes Dr. John Straube October 16th for a presentation on retrofitting New York City’s largest buildings. An eminent building scientist and educator, Dr. Straube will detail challenges and solutions to a range of complex retrofit projects, from large architectural pre-cast buildings to glass curtainwall structures.   For building owners, property managers, engineers, and beyond —submit specific details regarding your building in relation to Local Law 97. Please email each detail as a single-page pdf by 9 PM ET on October 14 and include up to 3 questions with your submission*. A selection of submissions will be incorporated into the program by Dr. Straube to address specific real-world concerns as we prepare for the changing tide.   Dr. Straube is a principal at RDH Building Science, where he conducts forensic investigations, assists with the design of new high-performance buildings, and leads research projects in the areas of low-energy building design, building enclosure performance, hygrothermal analysis, and field performance monitoring. A prolific writer and researcher, Straube Is the author or co-author of over 100 published technical papers, the author of the book High Performance Enclosures, and the co-author, with Eric Burnett, of Building Science for Building Enclosures.   * By submitting project detail, you confirm that you have authority to give permission for use, and thereby grant permission for use by Building Energy Exchange and other participants of this event.
