The Sandy Success Story Project is a compilation of 19 case studies that describe the mitigation measures, designs, and lucky situations that helped make pockets of the New York region more resilient during Superstorm Sandy. The presentation will focus on the design mitigations that “did their job” during the storm and will conclude with a discussion of the themes, lessons learned, policy implications, and next steps.   MODERATOR Sarah Sachs | Associate, Buro Happold Sarah provides consulting services in green building design, corporate strategic sustainability, energy planning, and sustainable master planning. She has extensive professional LEED experience, including using it as a design tool on both national and international projects and providing LEED consulting on many projects in various stages of design, construction and occupancy. Prior to this position, she began her career as an engineer with Arup and has also been involved thermal comfort research, energy simulation/analysis, and sustainable HVAC design. She teaches and lectures at Yale, Parsons, and Cooper Union.   SPEAKER Ariella Rosenberg Maron | Associate Principal, Happold Consulting Ariella provides strategy-consulting services related to energy management, climate action, and sustainability planning. She was most recently the Deputy Commissioner for Energy Management at the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services, during which time she also sat on the Board of the New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation. Prior to this role, she was the Deputy Director of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability, and was part of the core team that developed PlaNYC, focusing on air and water quality, energy, and climate change. She has also worked as a senior project manager in the Energy Division of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, as an urban planner in the Bronx Office of the New York City Department of City Planning, and as an analyst at the energy, economic consulting firm PA Consulting Group.   GBCI: Approved for 1.0 CE Hour AIA CES: Approved for 1.0 HSW/LU Hour
