2003 NY Green Buildings Open House Events
Whether you have one hour or six, you can participate in the 2003 Green Buildings Open House!
Tour One: Green Buildings Bus Tour 10am – 4pm
Ride Keyspan’s natural gas bus to five buildings in neighborhoods ranging from Harlem and Battery Park City in Manhattan to Crown Heights and Coney Island in Brooklyn. You’ll see both small and high-rise residential buildings, the Stillwell subway terminal, and the Solar Learning Center at Stuyvesant Cove Park.Limited to 40 participants. Lunch will be provided. AIA Continuing Education: 2 Hours
Tour Two: Lower East Side Guided Walk 10am – 2pm
Join GreenHomeNYC as we visit three sites in the Lower East Side! You’ll see a presentation about the Bitman Rivas House, a Green affordable housing development and visit the construction site, participate in a solar workshop at 6BC Community Garden, and see the PV installation at 179 Rivington. Limited to 15 participants. Please bring your own lunch. AIA Continuing Education: 2 Hours
Tour Three: Murray Hill Guided Walk 10am – 1pm
Visit three outstanding Green projects in the Murray Hill area: we’ll start at the Solar Learning Pavillion at Stuyvesant Cove Park, then walk over to the Administration for Children’s Services building, a 1901 landmark by McKim, Mead and White, for an exclusive tour. Lastly, we’ll visit Workspace, the Earth Pledge Foundation’s 1902 Georgian townhouse, which has been renovated to showcase sustainable materials, products and technologies.
Please note: This is the only opportunity during this event to tour the Administration for Children’s Services building. Limited to 15 participants. AIA Continuing Education: 2 Hours
Presentation: Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Queens Botanical Garden, Stillwell Subway Terminal at Kiss & Cathcart Offices 10am – 1pm
Take a look at the amazing changes in store for three public buildings: the incredible Stillwell Ave skylight-integrated PV system that will generate 250,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year to the terminal facility; the earth-sheltered administration building and natural water treatment pools at the Queens Botanical Garden; and the expansion project that will double the size of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum while making it the country’s first Green children’s museum. Limited to 20 participants. AIA Continuing Education: 2 Hours
