- This affordable, cooperative housing development consists of three four-story walk-up buildings on a formerly vacant lot in the Ocean Hill-Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn. A community room and laundry facilities are provided in each building. The residences share a common landscaped garden with a variety of planted, sitting and play areas. The brick façades feature gently curved bays and decorative patterns to add residential scale and visual interest. Curved canopies mark the entrances.
This is the largest and greenest multifamily complex ever built by a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the nation, and the development received LEED Gold Certification under the LEED for Homes program. Sustainable features include a green development plan, low-flow plumbing fixtures, energy efficient equipment, EnergyStar appliances and fixtures, green and recycled materials, enhancement of indoor air quality through insulation and ventilation, erosion and sedimentation control; native, low-maintenance planting and a Green Home Guide for residents.
A contractor built the core and shell of the buildings. The new homeowner families, along with thousands of volunteers, worked more than two years to help construct the interiors. - Private homes, please be respectful of the residents
