- TroutHouse, our first endeavor, is located in the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn; the vacant lot sits
surrounded by a rapidly renovated building stock. One block away is the commercial heart of the
neighborhood, with many new small shops and cafes among the existing taco stands and Maria
Hernandez park, as well as the famous Roberta’s Pizza, and the newly created Bushwick Food
Coop. thread collective has moved our offices to the ground floor, and three residential units are
above. A rear garden provides outdoors space for the office while a green roof garden and deck
serve as outdoor space for the tenants.

- Green Energy Features
- Integrated photovoltaic array of approximately 5.5kW takes advantage of the southern exposure and supply energy for the two units, including thread’s office.
- Energy Efficiency Features
- A primary focus is energy efficiency; not only in conservation but also at the source through
specific construction methods and materials, energy modeling, alternative energy sources, and
the optimization of mechanical equipment. Our Energy Star HERS Index is 31, showing that we
are 70% better than a typical apartment.

creating a non-toxic environment for the inhabitants and workers
- Water Conservation Features
- A rooftop green roof and garden provides common space and native planting. We are
using Gaia Soil, allowing us to get a 6” deep medium, allowing us to expand our planting
palette.
A grey water retention system supplies non-potable water for irrigation purposes in the
rear and rooftop garden.
